Setting Expectations
Do you need a coach?
If one or more of these statements applies to you, you might want to consider a coach:
I’ve shared my work with my friends/family, but they’ve given me as much feedback as they can and I still feel limited.
I’ve shared my work with my friends/family and have gotten conflicting feedback/advice.
My work is too personal to share with people close to me/I need an outside, objective reader for my work.
I feel like I need a professional perspective of my work.
I’ve taken writing classes and/or shared my work with friends/family but feel like I need more in-depth feedback and notes.
I’m editing myself in circles and/or each draft feels worse than the previous one.
I don’t have the right perspective/motivation/desire/momentum and have ended up confused about my writing/my manuscript.
I want to take my writing to the next level and am considering querying to an agent or publisher, or self-publishing and need help preparing my manuscript for this next level.
If any of this resonates, you might be an ideal candidate for coaching, with more or someone else. Read on to see how I can help you!

Expectations versus Reality
Results of coaching may vary. Some clients achieve different results than others. At the end of the day, I can’t write your book for you (I know, bummer, right?). So you get out of this relationship what you put in. Your results will be determined by how clear your end goal is.
Do you just want to finish a book? Do you want to get an agent? A publishing deal? Self-publish? If you don’t know what your end goal is, it’s harder for me to help keep you on track. Also, I can’t control the publishing industry or the market. I cannot guarantee that you will get an agent or a publishing deal after working with me (I wish!) nor can I promise that you will be an instant best seller if you choose to self-publish. And if you find a coach who does try to guarantee those things, you should be suspicious.
There is no quick path to successful writing. It takes a lot of time and effort. But if you commit to working with me and taking my feedback, I can promise that you’ll end up with a stronger draft than if you were working on your own.
I’m not a magician, I’m a teacher and a coach. Improving your writing and your manuscript will take a serious commitment of time and energy on your part. The magic is in you, not me. I’m just here to help you find the power that is already within you.
Ultimately my goal is to teach you the skills you need to do this on your own. I don’t want to be your coach forever, I want to help you find the power and the ability within yourself. I’ll always be here for the occasional boost, but my goal is to take you from bulk sessions or monthly plans to eventually only needing to chat in an individual call on an as needed basis.
