Book Developmental Editing - $0.04 per word
YOU’VE WRITTEN A book and now it needs editing. I can help with that!
Editing a book can be a very daunting process and editing is a very separate skill from writing. Editing is also one of the most important steps of the writing process. I’m a firm believer that every writer should have a basic understanding and ability to edit their work, but at a certain point, sometimes you need to call in an objective eye to look over your manuscript.
We’ll start with a video call discussing your project, its length, and the general timeline for the work. When you’re ready, you’ll send me the file as a Microsoft Word Doc and I’ll edit with line comments and track changes. While I am not a line editor or copyeditor, I can’t help myself when I see little areas that can be improved, so I will include line and copy edit suggestions when I have them but as a developmental editor I’ll be focusing more on the big picture stuff…plot development, pacing, character development, etc. Once I’m done, I’ll send you my 14-point report with my broad suggestions as well as the edited file with all the comments and track changes. After you’ve looked over my notes and comments, we’ll jump on another video call to go over my feedback and answer any questions you have.
I’m willing to work with most nonfiction and fiction, and most genres, but I’m a best fit for general nonfiction or women’s fiction, romance (particularly sweet, contemporary, chick lit, or steamy romance) and fantasy (particularly paranormal, supernatural, or urban fantasy). I welcome projects of all lengths, whether it’s a novella or a short work of nonfiction or a longer manuscript.
I offer free 20-minute consultation calls to briefly discuss your project and what you’re looking for in an editor and what I can offer you. Contact me today to schedule one.
Key features:
A 45-minute call at the start of the project to discuss your goals for your book, what you think it’s strengths and weaknesses are, anything specific you want me to focus on in my edit, and the editing timeline (typically a one month turnaround, depending on length of project).
A 14-point report giving you my big picture notes after reading and editing your draft
A marked up document with comments and track changes of my edits.
Another 45-minute call at the end to go over any questions you have about the 14-point report or my comments. I ask that you take some time you read through the report and my comments in your marked up file before the call so that we can make it as productive as possible.
Email follow ups for questions for 2 months after our second call. If you have questions about one of my suggestions or comments in your doc as you work on addressing feedback, you are welcome to email me.
What you’ll get from me:
15+ years of nonfiction/academic writing and editing experience
10+ years experience in teaching writing (with emphasis on the writing process and editing)
10+ years of fiction writing experience
